B. and I snuggled late into the morning, thank God, because after last night's festivities, we really needed the sack time. This country is lousy with loose acquaintances who want to visit, and of course we must put the works on and do so. It is our obligation to our friends who visit us among the savages, or so they say. Truth is, the white folk who visit are far more ignorant than our lovely native friends. And it's positively ghastly to listen to them go on as they do about how much better and safer and cleaner dear old England is. B. could feel me tense beside him as old Adams and his wife hissed over their wine about the mugginess and the jungle and I-don't-know-what.

I'm certainly hoping that this journal community will prove me with some more interesting folk than the sort that visit us. I'm just so bloody tired of pretending to be interested in someone for their pedigree. I know I must be polite for the sake of B.'s affairs, but I am thoroughly sick of having noone really interesting to talk with.

B. is so good to me, and I truly am grateful-he always brings me gifts home from his trips, but I long for the civilized world. The romance of the Ivory Coast is only spell-binding until one gets bored of it, I suppose.
